Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better known as Queen Latifah in the United States is a performer and actress. The role of Queen Latifah on television, film as well as music has earned many awards. This includes the Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah was born in and raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita teacher who taught for Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens, Jr. an officer in the police force. The couple divorced when Latifah was age of 10. Latifah was a student at the Catholic School in Newark, New Jersey and was raised by the Baptist Church. Latifah was her stage name before she turned eight. It means delicate in Arabic. Latifah is an extremely tall 5'10 girl who was part of the high school basketball squad. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz during a play in her high school. Latifah began beatboxing with the ladies fresh rap group. Latifah used to be a part of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers that united around the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created a demo of the rapper Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. Then he gave it to Yo! MTV Raps which is hosted by Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was enthralled by the tune. It was signed by Latifah and dropped her first single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
